De-stress beach boost

You won’t get a tan with that black cloud hanging over-you! “Being happy with yourself boils down to confidence,” says life coach Karen Ali. “If you feel negative, bad things happen and you get trapped in a vicious circle.” So break it now!

Step 1
“Everyone has a negative voice that says you won’t get what you want,.” Says life coach Steve Errey. “But you have to learn to ignore it. Give the voice an ugly persona – like Lord of the Rings’ Gollum – so that you recognize when you’re putting yourself down and ignore it.”

Step 2
Simple tricks are the easiest way to combat stress – try watching the clouds and clearing your mind of niggles. “Cloud watching helps stop your mind churning and connects you with the power of nature,” says Lynda Field. You can even do it out of your office window when you get back home. Just avoid looking too dreamy when the MB walks by.

Step 3
All big companies have brand values, summed up in a few key words. And Steve believes that creating your own brand values helps you make the right decisions and feel good about them. “Think about a time in the past when you did something very ‘you’, he says. Then choose words to match the moment. So if it was riding a horse on a beach, ‘fearless, free, but in control’ might be your values.” Next time you make a decision see if it fits them. If it doesn’t, it probably won’t make you totally happy.

Back home
Think about five things that make you smile, then work out on a scale of one to ten (ten being the highest) how often you do those things. Start a happiness chart – even if it’s just mentally – and log everything you’ve done that day that’s made you happy. Aim to have at least five happy days a week.
